Get the name of the company in question. Call the Better Business Bureau in your area,or the area of it’s origin, and they can tell if it is a scam or not

To be honest, you are probably not going to find an honest job working from home. Most of what you are going to find are scams where you will be asked to pay money and receive a list of places you can contact to apply to work online.
The most important thing to remember about job searches is that you should use a combination of methods regardless of your location.
Networking - Register at your local Unemployment Office (you don’t need to be on unemployment to register for their assistance). They often will have networking groups on a regular basis. They also are a good source for the jobs that never show up in the paper or online.
Check your local paper — In many cases the paper’s classified are now online.
Search Smart Online — If you don’t have a lot of time, spend most of your time at sites that aggregate the job feeds from several job search engines. Prominently these include indeed.com and thingamajob.com.
Organization — I use a free online application that allows you to track your ads, jobs you apply for, send or print mail merged correspondence, and track your job search history. It is a very useful tool that saves everything for you on one site… JobSearchLog.com.
Good Luck,
Karen

Scams scams scams scams. And the BBB is the biggest scam of all. They have no “teeth,” they are a private civilian company. They only take complaints (and money from other businesses) and send out letters. I read once that the BBB was founded by the Al Capone organized crime family as a front to extract extra money from businesses–don’t know if this is true but it would seem to fit their business model.
To find out about true scams go to where they are reported–the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) or the State Attorney General for the state you are in and the state they are in.
If you want a home business start your own. It should be something you know how to do already and are actually good at.
For example: you can start a house cleaning business, assuming you know how to actually clean a house properly, thoroughly, and with great attention to detail. You can advertise with fliers and distribute them yourself door-to-door in nice neighborhoods where you want to find clients. It will only take a few regular clients to make a nice living for you.
If you have small children that you cannot leave alone and you can’t afford to pay for daycare, then start an in-home daycare for others. Most states will let you keep a certain number of kids without having to be licensed and state regulated. Check with you state regulatory agency (on-line) to find out the deal where you live.
You can start a lawn maintence service. Mow grass, do edging, hedge trimming, weed eating. You have fairly minimal start-up equipment costs (you may already have everything you need in your garage or shed,) and if you charge a little less than the competition and do a Really Good job for people, they will be repeat customers and will tell their neighbors and relatives about you. Advertising done the same as suggested for the house cleaning business.
In either of those cases do NOT put the fliers in peoples mail boxes, that is a Federal Offense.
Take a few extra steps and put it on the front door. Make it into a doorknob hanger, or just wedge into the ***** between door and doorframe.
Get cheap software and Business Card blanks at Office Depot and make a nice looking business card. Makes you look established and more credible somehow.
Make crafts or folk art and sell it at flea markets or on eBay. THINK FOR YOURSELF and you won’t have to be the victim of the scammers.
