Has any one tried the work at home jobs they advetise in the employment news?

Im looking for work so i picked up the employment news, and somewhere they say “work at home make $500 Weekly, mail work, Assembly products or Computer work”, and theres also a website to sign up. I went on the website but to apply i have to send $50 to them for a catalog. Is this a scam? or is it real? hopefully some one who’s tried this would answer, but all answers are weclome.
